Don't worry, hun, all this is normal. It can take up to between 2-4 years during puberty for your menstrual cycle to become regular. You hormones are all over the place now so cycles can be unpredictable. Why do you think you were "supposed" to have one every other month? Its normal at your age to have one every other month or every 2 months. Or two in one month then nothing for 4 months. Eventually, it will straighten out. Unless, of course, you end up taking after your mom. Usually, though, infrequent periods is not inherited so just because your mom has them, doesn't mean you will, too. I would just carry on with your life and not worry about it. After 8 years, when you're twenty and you're still having infrequent or irregular periods, make an appt. with your Doctor to find out what's going on! Good luck .

Since your body just started having periods, it is not all that unusual for girls to skip a few periods when they first start having them. I'ts like the whole period thing isn't turned on all the way yet, and the hormones and organs aren't completely developed to the point where your periods will be regular. They will gradually become more reliable as you get older, and your body settles into your cycle.

Talk to your Mom about this.

You say she is irregullar, so you must have had some discussion with her, and she is the best one to answer as you seem to be taking after her.

Having said that, it is normal to be very irregular for a few years when you first start, sometimes skipping a whole year!

Things will settle doen to normal for you eventually!

It's totally normal to be irregular when you first start your period.
Relax....
If it doesn't even out after a year or so, ask your MD.
