The Inca, the Aztec and the Maya civilizations, who governed over millions of people, had knowledge of astronomy, math, medicine and engineering, had constructed huge cities with temples several stories high.
There was nothing like it in North America.

Hmm.. I'm going to say most were major to some degree.
It's hard to pick who was "major" and who wasn't when what people probably mostly think of is going to be what Nation names are most known to us.
