the drugs seem to have worse sidaffects than the problem they help. plus howmany people "drink responsibly"

Tobacco was the easiest market to target. Consider it a test market. Don't think for a second that alcohol won't be on the horizon in the near future. As for prescription drugs, yes they are addictive, but they are also helpful and needed. Very different ballgame.

because the tobacco lobby in congress isn't as strong and it's not popular to smoke any more Which is interesting because I've never seen a smoker mame or kill anyone with there car or accidentally die of a tobacco over dose I don't smoke but I don't feel the government should control what is advertised

I believe it's part of a settlement between the federal govt and the major tobacco companies -- the companies are not allowed to advertise their products that way.

Both alcohol and prescription drug ads are highly regulated. Just not as much as tobacco. It is a policy decision. Better to reduce one danger than none at all.
