Lie detectors are generally not admissible as evidence.

If you are charged with a crime, you need to get an attorney -- for serious crimes, if you cannot afford one, you can ask the court to appoint one for you. Even if you can only afford part of it -- you can still ask the court to appoint one for you.

A lie detector is not able to be submitted as evidence in court, so the lie detector does not matter. As for being charged, they must have sufficient evidence. Do you have proof of your whereabouts during the time of the crime, proving you are innocent? Are you actually charged with the crime, have you been officially arrested and given a court date, and so you are just out on bail, or they have not arrested you yet? Or are you just asking hypothetically? Basically either way you need to get a lawyer to defend you, and I would not talk to the police without the presence of that lawyer.

I'd say it depends on the facts - if the lie detector is all they have, then, personally, I'd seriously consider fighting it. BUT only a lawyer can give you competent advice - You need to see a lawyer ASAP!

I would recommend you get a good lawyer, and attempt to gather evidence to suggest that you bummed your lie detctor test. A single test is not enough evidence to convict someone of a crime.

lie dectector tests are not admitted as evidence in american courts because they are very unreliable.

I would get a lawyer and stop agreeing to do stuff that makes you look bad.
