I understand abbreviations are helpful at certain times and substituting HW for homework is compeletly acceptable. However, when I come on Yahoo! Answers, I'm shocked.
Why would you type, "like" as "lyke"? There're the SAME amount of letters and it doesn't take any less time to type.
And the constant jumping from capitals to lowercase letters? WHHHYYYY?
Do people think it makes them, "cool" or something? It doesn't- it makes them seem like idiots who never graduated primary school.

Because they lack the ability to change fonts, which may be used to express themselves beyond the content of the text they're typing.
I agree, it looks dumb. The effort required to read that kind of text isn't worth it. As for the spelling issues, I blame spell check and text messaging.

Ughhh nothing annoys me more then that. I had a friend who typed like that it was so hard to read I just gave up talking to them online lol. It makes you look so stupid when people type like that.

I think its the equivalent to talking in ebonics but in written language where the accent wouldnt be as obvious. It is annoying, i agree. I once had to read one of my bf's comments on myspace to him because one of his friends typed LyKe DaT. YaH bOii.
