When I start my computer a sign comes on that says \windows\system32\config\systemand?

When I start my computer a sign comes on that says
\windows\system32\config\system
and I can not go into safe mode or any mode to try to correct it or do a system restore, is there something I can do to fix it, that is not to costly, I am not to sure how much a new drive will be, what do drives usually cost (ball park figure).

You disk drive may be broken, but it possible that some file(s) are just garbled.
Any reputable repairman can run a test and tell you if your disk drive is failing. If your drive is not broken, and if you have a windows CD, boot the CD and choose the "repair" option.
