I can't choose a favorite book, my favorite author is Stephen King. I love every book of his that I have read, and I am reading them all slowly but surely. My favorite movie at 4 years old was Pet Sematary. Desperation was the first book I read by Stephen King and it got me hooked. The Dark Tower Series is just awesome and I love Salem's Lot. I have read so many more but those are my favorites. I also love the Harry Potter series, but my love for Stephen King books preceded that. I also like Edgar Allan Poe, been reading his works for a long time. My mom even used to read them to me when I was little. She is really into Poe.

I'm with you on Poe - a master. As much credit as he gets, I think he deserves more . . . basically inventing the mystery and sci-fi genres - plus the poems and the overlooked critic writings.
As far as favorite book and author - hard to say, my favorite changes with mood. I do enjoy the works of Neil Gaiman, in particular "American Gods" and "Good Omens" - but you really can't go wrong with any of his writing. The Sandman series is also excellent.
Other authors I enjoy include Orson Scott Card, Alexandre Dumas, Jules Verne, Joaquim Maria Machado de Assis, Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, amongst others.
