Not always
Sometimes something doesn't kill all of you, it just kills a little piece, but you don't get this piece back. More and more gets taken away until what is left has so little to hold on to, that it weakens and eventually dies.
I write this with a full love of life. I have seen victims of diabetes and chemotherapy, not all of these people were strengthened by their experience. I have known people who have been destroyed by their own addictions, whether it was alcohol, love, the things they may have lost, or something else, it took them away slowly. I have known people who lost the will to live. Death is inevitable, it doesn't matter how strong you are. I am going to make the most of this one chance at life that I have.

In some cases, but not necessarily all cases...it depends on your "constitution" and how you choose to deal with whatever it is that doesn't kill you
