I was a first responder to a vehicular homicide and the jury trial date has been set. I am a college student living a couple of hours away without a car. Can I provide a deposition so I do not have to be present. I also play college football and the date conflicts with game schedule. I want to cooperate but the court date couldn't come at a worse time. Do I have any options??

If you are testifying for the prosecution in a criminal trial, you must appear if your testimony is going to be used against the defendant-- that's part of the 6th Amendment guarantees for the right of cross-examination.

You can ask the prosecution to provide you with travel costs.

YOU think it's inconvenient---what about the dead guy? Don't you want to make sure the facts are as straight as they can be?
