Great question! I used to own a Toyota pick-up truck and caught alot of crap from friends and co-workers for not buying an american made truck, but the fact is Toyota is building plants and creating american jobs while the big three american auto makers are shipping jobs out of the U.S.. I would never buy another vehicle from any of the big three auto makers in this country because of the fact that they are shipping jobs out of this country. Why should I remain loyal to american companies who have betrayed their american workers? Let them sell their autos in Mexico and China

Maybe a person sane enough to not to want to pay a BMW service tech $130 per hour check the fluid level in the transmission (BMW has decided that we average dolts are too dumb to check our own so they don't install dipsticks), or sane enough not to want their car sitting in a service dept for weeks while a team of techs try to figure out why the 'low tire pressure' warning lamp won't go off or why the on board nav system stopped working or why the idiotic iDrive system has to be so damn complicated or why a replacement headlamp cost over a THOUSAND fu*king dollars or why a wheel alignment costs TWO HUNDRED dollars or why the value plunged over 20% after the first six months after purchase or why BMW hired a bunch of drunken ex-Chevy designers back in 2000 to pen all their new, roundish, bubbly, turd-looking Bimmers or why BMW has the nerve to call themselves 'the ultimate driving machine' when the damn cars won't even LET you drive them without anti-roll, anti-lock, anti-spin, anti-shift, anti-fun??
Yes, they build a great car but they also pack-on so much electro-gimmickry that you need a live-in mechanic just to keep it all working. Just because you can engineer it and paste it on doesn't necessarily mean it belongs on a car.

Good question.
I did read that Ford invested $1 billion into China not long ago.
Ford also had the recall on tires they knew were deffective and killing people. China also had another problem with 450,000 tires recently being defective. They were not even recalled. Consumers were just stuck with them.
I will never buy another ford. I have owned about 4 of them over the years. However a BMW is a bit out of my league.
I havnt heard anything bad about chevy.

BMW's last longer than Ford's, so they're better in the long run in my opinion. They're much more popular in Germany, where they're not an import. You can buy BMW parts at Autozone, i'm not sure what that guy was talking about. I do it all the time. And i'd say that the most expensive car to maintain would be something more like Ferrari's, because you have to completly rebuild them after just 30,000 miles at a price of over $15,000.

My Ford Escape will be running as long as any BMW suv will, and though it may not be beamer, I won't be going to the poor house just to get a service done on it. And because Americans are buying german and japanese and korean, the big three are forced to cut costs as they must. I will admit that it is their own fualt, however. The lack of staying ahead has cost them dearly, and more cost effective and reliable vehicles has driven the public to go foreign.
That being said, I still blow the doors off beamer suvs, outhandle them, and stop less at the pumps. If only Ford could make the rest of their car lines as good.....

You must have never owned a BMW.... I lived in germany for 5 years and owned 4 different BMW's.... they are not any better than a Chevy or Ford.... and for your information Ford outsells BMW like there is no tomorrow...... BMW are just over priced, over hyped imported cars, thats all....... and they break down an awful lot......

I've owned and driven BMW's and believe me they aren't just expensive to purchase. They are THE most expensive car to maintain today. You can't even buy a battery to fit them except from BMW. And the dealer charges an arm, a leg and a left gonad for everything. Give me American iron with affordable and available parts anyday.

A couple reasons. I like the styling of some of the Fords, including the Mustang.
Another - I would rather a good portion of the money I spend for a car remain within our country and go towards jobs in our country than to a EMEA or AP country.

Because you can't afford a BMW?
Why not compare Ford and Subaru which has lower priced models and also builds in america?

It's more affordable, practical and eventually spare parts from China will always be cheaper than bmw. (avoid chewing the paint of your ford, it might contain lead) :) have a nice day!
