How could a straight person backup this conviction if they aren't even gay?*

*I know there are straight supporters of the LGBT community out there. I'm not talking about them. I'm talking about the straight people that legitimately think we "pick" to be gay.

Word, and if they wanna back up that statement.

I want them to be gay for a year, if not a month. Date the same sex, spend time, have sex, make love, etc, etc, say that's you're gay to you're family and friends, and anyone who asks.

I don't see why they wouldn't, they can just repent for the "sin", and be good again after. And it might show something, but they won't, and it won't happen, and we all know why.

And it's the straight people who contribute to that belief in the world, which is why it's no longer just people from strict religious families who think people choose to be gay. Ever notice how half the TV shows out there have a straight person "turn gay" for about a season and then go right back to the opposite sex (Sex & The City, The OC, Degrassi, South of Nowhere, etc), or make out/get it on with someone of their sex "for fun" (many reality shows)? And then I now hear so much about straight girls talking about "girl-crushes" and publicly drooling over some chick (many love Angelina Jolie), talking about how she'd do her. People who don't really know gays or know anything about being gay think those women are real lesbians.

It's mainly religious straight people who say this. And i feel the ONLY reason that religion is so against the "born gay" theory is that if you are born gay, then it can't be a sin, because God made you that way. As opposed to "choosing" to be gay, which would be a sin. And honestly, I've read every bible verse where it supposedly says that being gay is a sin, and that its not right, the passages are all about interpretation. They took a few passages, bent the words how they wanted them, and ignored every other possible explanation. Perfect example is Sodom and Gamora, in Leviticus. Sure, you can interpret it that the city was punished for homosexuality, or you can interpret (in the larger scope of the incident), that the city was punished because they were extremely inhospitable to guests and took out their lusts and desires upon them.

The problem with most religious people, is they don't interpret and decide their beliefs for themselves, they just listen to what the majority says. If most people read the bible, and approached it with an unbiased mind, they would probably have way different beliefs than what they're told to have.

Hmm... here's a star. I am a straight person. I know that Homosexuality isn't something you can take on and off like a hat. My best friend is a lesbian, she came out to me and only me. Before she came out to me, I wouldn't even think about Homosexuality... I don't even think I thought they were born that way, I thought it was all about having feelings and going along with them when you shouldn't. Well, ever since my friend came out I COMPLETELY changed my mind. A lot of heterosexuals think that all gay couples made some conscious decision, whether out of sexual pleasure or a desire to be different. Some just won't understand, people just can't handle the fact that some people have different sexual orientations (sad) which obviously leads them to thinking that homosexuals just "chose" their sexuality. And of course only straight people will think that way, because they don't know how you feel. I'm sure a gay person would never say that they chose their sexuality rather than being born that way.

Also can I be your contact? I tried but it won't let me.

When people bring this subject up, "you choose to be gay", I always ask them to tell me about their experience of choosing to be straight. I always get this dumbfounded look and I then say, "You must remember when you made that choice. I mean if sexual orientation is a choice it has to be a choice for everyone. Sometime around the age of 12 you begin to have attractions. What was it like for you to choose between Bobby from down the street or Katie from you class at school?"
Then they usually get my meaning...if it's a choice for gay people then it's a choice for everyone...and straight people never have to choose or at least have to pay some kind of consequences for their desired attractions.

I always leave them thinking...about what I have no idea...but at least their thinking and that's progress, Right?

That's not entirely true, besides the religious fundamentalist who preach being Gay is a choice, you forgot about the Gay people that proclaim to be straight (people in denial of their true sexual orientation). These are the people who are more detrimental to the gay community than any other group. They end up becoming politicians and even worse religious leaders. Their self hatred spurs an evil that makes our lives a living hell. They are the true hypocrites and destroyers, not the straight people. But you are right it is very hard for some straight people to understand being Gay when it goes against their nature. Just like it goes against our nature to be straight. But one thing seperates us, we understand why people are straight and don't hate them for it. I wish they would give us the same consideration. Peace

"Pick" to be gay? this sounds kinda stereotypical. No one can backup this conviction because no ones knows how it is to be gay. I choose to be who I am because being gay makes me happy. I notice that there are stereotypes about the gay society and everything but I haven't seen many people say that we weren't born gay. If there are sientific fact about gays being born gay then please do send me this information. I would love to see it.

I've also noticed this, but sometimes gay people will usually as this question as well since they are trying to find out more information about sexuality and how people are gay.

Well, that's been one of my complaints, too. We have all these anti-gay heterosexuals telling us how we were born, how we "choose" to be gay, how sinful we are for being gay, how we are imagining we are gay, etc. How the heck would they know? It's as if we aren't even given the consideration that we might know what's going on in our own minds! What are their real motives?

Yep, noticed that as well. The people who think they know the most about it are not gay themselves, nor do they know any gay people. Makes you wonder where their expertise comes from.
