1) It helps keep track of and plot extensive data sets gathered in the field.

2) GPS can help us stay in our field area and plot things more accurately on maps.

3) Programs can help us draw more accurate maps or drill better placed wells with the data collected.

4) We can use XRD or XRF to better understand the composition of minerals and rocks.

5) We can use special tools to better understand downhole compositions of wells.
