He's due in six weeks. Any "Jr.'s" out there care to tell how they've liked going through life with daddy's name?

I say go for it. What greater honor could you bestow upon the little man? Many great men throughout history had their father's names.

Once he get out of being a baby they can't call himbaby John any more. And i think everyone should have their own name. Unless there is a real reason, like you are in the war or have a deadly diese and are planning to die soon, don't name him that. Here is a good name, James Taylor is cute.

I might considerate if it were a family tradition.
It is a family tradition for my boyfriend's paternal side of the family, though only to some extent. His mother refused to name him after his father. However, his stepmother and baby sister share the same name.
When I asked my boyfriend if he wanted a son named after him, he said, "No, I am the only one in my family with my name and I want to keep it that way."
What you could do is use your first or middle name int the child's name.

I think you should only be a junior if an appropriate nickname can be given to you. One that is different from your fathers.
For example, if your father's name is Ethan Jr. You can't really get a nickname from Ethan. I mean, you could be E.J., but that does not have a pleasant ring to it.
If your father's name is.....
James...you could go by Jim.
Michael......by mike or mikey
Robert....Rob, Robby or Bob.
Junior is just not a good nickname to call someone.

OK....I'm from the southeast and we got enough Bubba's and JR's. and then there's the ever popular "Little" Johnny or "Little Mike", talk about giving a kid a complex.
Please give him his very own name. Maybe use one of your names as a middle name. Kids have to wear hand me downs, share rooms, etc they at least deserve a name.

I don't think naming your kid after yourself is a good idea.... I think each person deserves their own special name
my boyfriend's name is John Adam Michael (lastname) and his dad's name is John and everyone calls him Adam to avoid a mixup, and for his graduation my mom didn't even know who John Adam Michael was she was like "ooh when is Adam going to cross the stage"... weird things happen when Jr's get involved

If you have a nice name, I say you do it. It's such a wonderful thing for a man to be able to name his son after him. My brother is a junior and he's never complained. However, when my son was born, my husband did not want him to be named after him so we didn't. It's really a personal decision.

Man, a lot of chicks here are hung up on "give him his own name." Look, millions upon millions of boys in the world today have their father's names. I'm proud to have mine.
To the above poster: Time honored traditions can never be "tacky."

No! Dont, it might be okay once hes like 5. But as soon as he starts school he will be made fun of. And when hes 80 "hey junior".
But whatever if you like it alot then name him it.
