I have a Cable internet connection and ever since i set up my home network and connected my cable modem to the router, my internet connection has been slowed down dramatically.
My computer tech said that since i had wanted to set up a Secure Network it'd be slowed down, but not much, but the speed im at now is just ridiculous. Can someone help please.

A home network will cause all computers to "share" the internet connection. Very often when a home network seems to severely slow the internet connection, it's caused by a virus or trojan on one machine that is simply "stealing" all your bandwidth. So I would start with a very complete scan of ALL machines which are connected.

You might also need to recheck all the settings in your router. If you need to see which machine is causing the issue start by unplugging them one at a time to see which one lets the speed come back to normal. (A bad network card can cause the issue also.) Once you isloate which machine is bad, check the Network Card, the drivers, etc to find the issue.

Good luck -- hope that helps.

You may have to spell out some details. Wired? Wireless? Hubs? Most Router/Swiches, even those with built-in firewalls, will not slow down your network noticably. Do you have any devices connected to your network with two different ports? A loop in your network will give most routers fits.
