I mean parks with big trees that create shading and provide nice breeze.

Since it takes so long for trees to grow, if cities build parks now, we will not be able to fully enjoy them in this life time it seems.

Sure we get the grass, but i don't think the palm trees and trees wil be mature enough to give us that nice feeling.

If your grandparents had thought that way you'd have NOTHING. Think of those who are coming after you. We owe it to them to leave the world a better place.

The city has money they have to use. If they build a park..the money is used so then the next year the get the same or more money. If they don't use it, that money is less the following year. Then each year, the potential for beautifying the cities and other improvements they do will keep the money coming which we see every day and yearly. We set it up nicely for our grand kids and beyond. We really only use the parks with the kids so..unless you take walks in the park, the sizes of the trees aren't on your mind. The nice feeling comes when your grand kids come to visit you and when they ask if they can go to the park..you know...that they can. The taxes that you paid 15 years ago to help build that park down a few blocks up the road or across town is finally showing it's value as your sitting under the Liquid Amber, that was just a stick with branches is now providing you some shade while the kids play.

Well, if that is the case then we will get satisfaction that our children will get to enjoy our attempts to make the world a better place. Therefore, my answer to your question is Yes it is worth it. I'm assuming that you are young and not yet a parent, so when you become a parent then you will understand that just about everything we do in life is for the next generation. If you can't quite understand how that can possibly be then just consider what it would be like if people could no longer produce offspring. Do you think people would continue to build parks, or buildings, or museums, or schools,or even continue to work, or do you think people would stop caring about the future? We may not be able to fully benefit from the new park ourselves, but every generation that follows will and that's enough for me.

we can immediately enjoy the open space; while our future generations can enjoy the full benfits of the shade, etc.

just like how central park is available to us now and is due to the planning of others in the past.

Yes it is worth it- sometimes one has to think about future generations. And that should give you that nice feeling.

quit thinking of yourself only -providing green space in a neighborhood is always a wise investment.
