My daughter is 11 months old and has always been a great sleeper, she sleeps around 12 hours an night without waking, and up until recently made no fuss about going to bed, I've always put her down awake and she puts herself to sleep.
But the last 4 nights, when I put her in her cot, she starts screaming and crying, and really gets herself into a state. I tried just leaving her to it last night, but she cried on and off for half an hour so I went in, calmed her down and cuddled her then put her down again, that time she cried for about 15 mins then went to sleep.
Its really breaking my heart hearing her cry like that, and the strange thing is, she doesn't do it during her daytime naps, they're not a problem at all.
Has anyone else had this happen? Any advice?
Thanks in advance, and sorry about the long question!

Maybe its a new fear? Try a night light, and check on her every 10 minutes. Do you have a night time routine in place? That sometimes helps, if you do the same thing every night at the same time. Like supper, then bath, a story then bedtime?

first to be sure take her to the doctor to make sure everything is o.k. this is from experience, if everything is o.k. which i'm sure will be, set a small fan in the room that generates enough noise to make the baby sleep and not hear anything
from any other rooms in the house. and remember, baby is growing, they will experience pains that hurt and they don't understand so they will react in the only way they know how.
you are a great mom. just use patience.

Ahh she tried a new tactic and you bought it. So she tried it again and it worked. So now she has been rewarded for bad behavior. This is typical for children. Congratualtions you child is thinking and executing by trial and error. This is all assuming she is comfortable and safe then you have to not give in to her crying regardless of how mentally painful it is. Good Luck.

My daughter is 11 months old too, and she slept throughout the night up until a few days ago. My daughter is teething again...Maybe yours is too? If so, i'd give her some baby motrin.

I once used an oscillating fan to provide a "hypnotic" soft humming sound, and found that my grandchildren went to bed and to sleep automatically. You don't have to have the fan facing them if it might jeopardize their health, but just the sound of one on provides the hypnotic soft humming that kids love and sleep well with. God Bless you.

Every time Noah goes through something like this...he has a growing spurt or he learns something new (like sitting up, crawling, or standing). So, maybe she's about to accomplish a new task (walking?). Try patting her to sleep...that's what I've been doing lately.
