Please study the history of socialism throughout the world to see why we oppose universal health care. Study American history to see what made us so great. THEN, if you still don't understand, ask your question.

#1 - We had planes flown into our buildings, not the other way around. Saddam had/has a history of being brutal and refusing INternational law. Money spent, maybe not well.
#2 - Name me ANY government health program from ANY other country which actually works. England, Canada, all those people come HERE to get top-notch care and hi-tech medical treatment they can't get in Socialized medicine because it doesn't PAY enough. Pakistani medical students come HERE to learn and go to school. Plus, there's enough government programs they can't manage NOW ( yes, including Defense , but that's a requirement of the Constitution, only we can make it better by demanding it ), so lets not give them yet ANOTHER one to (mis)manage.

That is only the tip of the iceberg. Our government wastes billions of dollars every year on frivolous spending. Only a small percentage of large corporations pay taxes. The majority of the rich also do not pay taxes. With the money spent on Iraq so far they could have given us all health care, fixed social security and our schools. The government borrows millions if not billions from other countries. The interest alone would cover health care. And this all happened since Bush took office. Bush like others before him, raped social security, only he did it on a much larger scale. The only way out I could possibly see is to make everyone pay their fair share in taxes.

I'll give you the ten cent answer, since I could type for days on this.
No one is taking away anyones 'rights' to healthcare by not forcing john to pay for mikes healthcare. Healthcare is a commodity. Some people find it important enough to buy insurance for, instead of buying rims for their car. And for people who need care, but can not afford it, gov't programs are in place.
There are several reasons for not socializing medicine, the biggest being it would create a downward spiral in the quality of care, and its efficiency. I will explain if you wish, email me for more.
Second:
The war is not an 'elective' war. Saddam was removed from power, for SEVERAL reasons, all based on well over a decade of worldwide intelligence. That, along with saddams refusal to cooperate with U.N. mandates, for also over a decade, made it necessary to take him out of power.
Saddam is gone. Iraq was left without a government. If we leave, well funded groups backed by groups and countries (such as hezbollah/Iran, and syria) will take over the government, and control the countries wealth (one of the wealthiest in the region). We must allow the people of Iraq the ability to defend its newly ELECTED gov't. If we do not, it will surely fall to the type of people who like to strap bombs to the chests of children and send them into groups of people to detonate. People like that will undoubtedly use the wealth of Iraq to do more harm than good, and we will eventually be dealing with a much larger problem than we have today.
feel free to email me with a follow up, if you SERIOUSLY don't understand

You are wise, Grasshopper! The propaganda war against common sense goes on and on. Even the charge of 'socialized medicine' is total BS. S/M 'requires' that the central government take control of all medical facilities and put medical personnel on salary. NOBODY has suggested this! NOBODY! What has been suggested is a single payer HEALTH INSURANCE plan that covers all americans because, and only because the private health insurance mafia can't or won't do it. As for the war....shazam....a billion borrowed bucks a day with zero return..and ironically a lot of it comes China....they know a sucker when they see one! We're no safer because of this war, but I guess that wasn't the reason for the war.....Can you say Oil?

No I do not agree. You think we just decided to start this war? Interesting. What is a bigger outrage is that you wasted your free education that his government provided you. Why should the whole population pay for something that only affects such a small number of people. Nobody in this country is denied medical attention. If you want free medicine, move to Canada. But I recommend you not move too far inland. They seem to need our facilities over here quite a bit since they are overstretched.

Socialized health care makes a lot of sense - kind of like a national insurance policy that every one pays premiums on.
That being said - do you really want the government bureaucracy handling it? Think DMV. Think Social Security. Think infrastructure maintenance. Think immigration and naturalization. Think $350.00 hammers and $100.00 ashtrays. Think IRS.
Now think - your health will be handled in the same timely manner and with the same accuracy and efficiency.
I don't get the parallel with the Iraq war - obviously, you think we should not have confronted the Islamic radicals? Perhaps we should have continued with our policies of no effective response to their terror and murder? Some of us support this war and any other action that will try and eliminate this ideology of hatred and domination. You might feel more comfortable if you ignore the embassy bombings and other acts of terror, but the events of 9/11 are quite difficult to dismiss.

Read the Constitution. Defense rests solely on the federal government. Health care does not.

Health care is a right. You have the right to buy it. You do not have the right to make me pay for it for you.
We are in Iraq because we had to take out Saddam. It is not an elective war. It is not likely that I will convince you of anything contrary.
I am frugal because it is not my money.

I don't believe that any of those practices or govt policies should come out of mandatory taxes -- they should all be voluntarily funded by the people who support them.
If too few of the American people support a govt program, and it fails because too few people pay into it -- that should be how the American people decide what gets paid for.
The only things that everyone should be required to pay into are a defensive military, law enforcement for harmful crimes (violence against persons or property), and infrastructure (roads, dams, bridges). Everything else should be optional.
