It is too early.
My doctor recommended NO earlier than 6 months.
In fact, the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends no solids before 6 months these days (any doctor that tells you before 6 months has outdated information for his profession.)
If you insist on feeding him cereal anyway, you should introduce him to a single cereal by itself for a while. Introduce all the cereals (wheat the latest) and then start with fruits and veggies. You are trying to avoid allergies developing (that's why it's better to delay solids and to feed single foods at first.)

Plain cereal for a week or two then introduce a half of container of fruit at feeding. Use th same fruit for 2-3 days straight to monitor for allergies..if he handles that well you can introduce a new fruit. Stick to the white fruits at first, like pears, applesauce, bananas, then go to oranges like peaches and then into the purples..but stick to half a container per feeding of the same fruit for at least 2-3 days so you can tell which fruit a rash may be from or other allergic reaction.

Many good points here concerning a very debatable issue. Only you can determine what is appropriate as it will be YOU who is living with the decision and not the AAP.
Beware those who quote the AAP as in general they are the ones who haven't read the recommendations. If they had, they wouldn't quote it or perceive infant cereal as a solid.
Infant cereal is not a solid and is not qualified as one by pediatricians or the AAP. Many of the parents here have been feeding this to their children well before 6 months with no issues. I would simply puree the fruit or crush up a banana. If you are concerned with allergies, use oatmeal and not rice or barley first.
As stated above, each child is different as each parent is different. You know what is best for the little one, sometimes you have to learn things the hard way though!
Best of luck!

Actually it is too early. I just tried to give my 5 1/2 month old rice cereal with bananas and she has an allergic reaction. The pediatrician said that she's not allergic to it, but her body didn't respond well because it is still too soon. Cereal with fruit is stage 2 foods. It's best to keep them on stage 1 foods until they are a little bit older.

It all depends on the Baby. Call your pediatrician and ask him/her if your baby is ready to start cereal with fruit.
My pediatrician started my son on cereal at 3 months and solid food at 4 months but we had to start with the veggies first and then the fruits (as with everything you introduce your baby to, You have to give it 3 days in a row to check for allergies once you see he had no reaction then you are OK to start the next)
The pediatrician then recommended to give the baby cereal with juice.
Call the pediatrician and ask him. Only him and you know your baby better. If you call and ask over the phone maybe he won't ask you to come in. Or if not stick with just plain cereal and on the baby's check up consult with the pediatrician.
⣠Good Luck ⣠I hope this was helpful

I wouldn't quite yet. It's recommended to start them on single ingredient foods to ensure they are not allergic to anything. Just feed him the single grain rice or single grain oatmeal cereal and avoid the added fruit right now. There's really no good reason to add it quite yet. Once they get going with plain cereals and fruits and veggies and you know what they are and are not allergic to, then I'd feel free to mix, but not until then.

I do not think it is to early, the doctor said I could start feeding my daughter cereal and fruit when she was 4 months. Make sure to introduce one fruit at a time to make sure your son is not allergic to anything, so if you give him apples give it to him for about 3 days before giving him something different. What I did was I just started her on the baby oatmeal and made it alittle watery because the rice cereal made her really constipated so my doctor said to give her the oatmeal, so I would make a 6 oz bottle and pour some of the formual in the oatmeal and stir it up and then I would take a number one jar of fruit any kind you want and stir it in there and give it to her and she loved it and she still eats if every morning for breakfast.

Noah's pediatrician did not start him on cereal until he was 6mths old. He started on rice, then wheat, then barley. After a few weeks, he started fruits. Several weeks later, he started vegetables. And, at 9mths, he just started meats. Your pediatrician should have a hand out explaining exactly how to feed your newborn. You'll want to follow the instructions pretty closely as it pertains to food allergies. Good luck.

Yes, it is still too early.
Research now shows that a baby does best if you introduce solids at about 6 months.
Do not listen to those who tell you that a baby will sleep if you give cereal. That is not true, even if they think it happened with their baby, it is not the cereal that did it.
