How do so-called "moderate" Muslims deal with the FACT that the founder of their so-called "religion" was a blood-thirsty, murderous, war-mongering, pedophile? Mohammed was truly not a very nice person. What do moderate Muslims think about this fact.

Edit: to tommy s. This is historical fact. One does not have to live in history to know the facts.

Edit: to soperson- How can you liberals turn every question into a "I hate Bush" rant? Oh, and Jesus didn't write "Revelations". You can't even compare the peaceful teachings of Jesus witht the hateful, violent, and intollerant teachings of Mohammed.

They'll find some irrelevant small passage in the bible proving one of Christianity's heroes is bloodthirsty, or may even make up a story. Mohamed though was constantly killing and raping.

First, that's a debatable point -- most of direct teachings of the prophet Mohammed advocated peaceful learning, outreach and education -- much like most other religious leaders throughout history.

It was Mohammed's followers and disciples who turned that agenda on its ear and started being militant -- and the schism between them which led to much of the sectarian violence that the religion has had internally.

But even if your characterization is correct -- the moderates take the parts of the book that are rational and reasonable and follow those -- much like any religion picks and chooses which parts of its holy text to follow.

You don't see Christians (much any more) who stone people to death for working on Sunday, or for wearing blended fabrics, or for touching the skin of a dead pig (including a football), or advocating for slavery -- they realize that those were ancient practices that have no place in the modern civilized world.

Same with 99+% of Muslims, who don't practice violence as a way of life.

As I understand it, Islam draws a distinction between the verses recited by Mohammed when he was divinely inspired, and his words and actions as a human being.

As a name, commomsense, is an oxymoron for you...Also, it seems you have been reading too much Zionist propaganda, that is, assuming you ain't one yourself. Anyway, Mr. Bush's presidency depends on people with your level of intelligence and knowledge, just carry on and they'll give you brownies!

What message are you trying to give?

Are you supporting the beliefs of moderate Muslims or fanatics with your ranting?

Only a Muslim can answer this question. Everyone else can only speculate on how they rationalize this fact.
