Dogs are domesticated animals. Deer is game. I have a deer head hanging in my living room over my TV. My husband shot it when he was like 13 and he's proud of it. Him and his family ate the meat so it's not like it went to waste. We eat dear all the time. If you're gonna start this argument you might as well throw cows in there too. You don't eat hamburgers or something? Are you a vegetarian?

Lets start with the fact that hunting is part of conservation. It helps keep the population of animals (like deer which can be very destructive to the natural environment in mass numbers) in check and helps keep dangerous diseases from spreading among the animal populations. You have to buy a tag to hunt, and you're limited on when you can hunt, where you can hunt and even the sex of the animal you can take. All that money, and its a lot of money, goes to the up keep and management of state and national parks. Plus I don't know any hunter that shoots a deer just for the trophy. They take the edible meat off the animal as well. Was Vick eating the meat of the dogs he electrocuted or drowned?? Thats another thing, a hunter is shoting to kill. They don't want to have to track an injured animal all over Gods green country - thats just a pain in the ***. Also, I've never seen a hunter put 2 deer in a cage and make them fight to the death. Maybe think a little before you open your mouth about issues you obviously know nothing about.

Agreed Butchie boy, I think deer hunting is awful too. When I see a deer head on some one's wall, it sickens me as well. They are so proud they have 'outsmarted' a deer. I will not associate with those who do it.

But what is one to do? It is legal. Men have been doing this since the beginning of time, and there is no way you or I will convince someone who does this that they shouldn't.

However, you cannot compare this to dogfighting. The level of cruelty is so different. The deer are not held in captivity their entire lives, while being starved and tortured and then forced to fight to the end. The deer are not hung, drowned and electrocuted if they won't willingly be shot.

Then when you consider that dogs are so loving and so loyal to humans, dogfighting is such a terrible exploitation of any dog's love. Can;t you see that?

It would not change the amount of rage I,personally feel for Vick, but I believe that if he had only been fighting the dogs, and not executing with such sadistic methods the outrage would not be as strong from the rest of the public.

You should be able to see what the outrage is all about. When you think about this man who had millions and could have enjoyed any activity he wanted, and chose to abuse and execute these dogs in such a terrible sadistic manner, how could you not be outraged?

And buddy, the media is only following the lead of what the public wants to discuss, it is the public that is keeping Michael Vick in the news, because we are appalled at what he has done, and we want him to be made an example of. Sorry if you don't like it, but he put himself in the position to allow it to happen. He should have tried to curb his sick and demented nature.

I'll answer your question first, then I'll respond to your commentary. Hanging deer heads on your wall is fine - IF the deer is killed for one of two reasons (or both): food or safety of one's self, family, or property. Part of the property aspect can be in keeping the deer population down so that they don't get diseased and so that they don't destroy a farmer's crop. This is clearly not the same with dog fighting. The difference between dog fighting and deer hunting is that people are getting their kicks from watching dogs savagely kill each other. I would expect a deer, or any hunted creature to be killed humanely, and to be used for food. If then, there is a "trophy" from it, so be it. It just doesn't seem appropriate for people to be getting their kicks from animals suffering. Having said that, the media loves to having something to go in a frenzy about - either side of the political divide. For the record, I don't think I could hunt and kill an animal, but I do respect the reasons that exist for doing so IF it's not just for a trophy head.

You can't just go out in the woods and shoot a deer. You have to buy a license and you can only shoot them during hunting season. If you get caught shooting a deer or even spotlighting for deer when it is not hunting season it is a huge fine and you go to jail. Your not even allowed to buy deer meat from someone else that shot it you can get jail time for that. They allow hunting deer to control their overpopulation. They are food. I think it's wrong for them to be shot for sport, if your going to shoot them, eat them, or give them to somebody that will. Oh, and it's not just a good 'ol boy sport. There are black people that hunt too!
Vick and every other dog fighter is sadistic and deserve everything they get and more. I'm glad it happened, it took someone like Vick getting caught to get dogfighting the attention it deserves.
During Vicks statement Monday he said, " Use me as an example."

What is your malfunction butchieboy22? Deer are wild animals. As with all wild animals, they need to have their population controlled. The fact is that hunting, in most cases, is a more humane way to get food than going to a supermarket, where the meat comes from a slaughterhouse. Do you want to be driving down an interstate highway, have a deer run out infront of you, hit it, and you could possibly die. The big difference is that dogs, when raised properly, DO NOT pose a threat to people, and can provide much more entertainment than a fight to the death.

I haven't seen or heard of Bush killing a single person, also killing and eating deer is more then a sport for some people that's one of the things that helps their income feed their families. But then again I don't like dogs, so go kill all you want you can start with my neighbors dogs who bark all damn night.

Did you see the snakeskin tie Vick wore to court. Now that is sick. At least if someone LEGALLY kills a deer and hangs the mounted head, it is usually in their house (I have 3 of them in my house), and not draped around their neck. Get over it already, what Vick did was ILLEGAL and he deserves all the bad publicity he gets. PS. And we do eat the deer meat, it is great in chili, or made into jerky. Uuumm Uuumm good!!!!

Can't compare hunting to Dog Fights. Those dogs were bread for their brutality, only the strongest would survive, because they would not make good pets if they were weaker.
Hunting manages deer populations. Its a rational solution to a problem, even produces revenue for the state.
I think you are right that the media is going overboard but what else is new.

Well, if the hunters aren't eating the meat or donating it to someone who will, then I agree. I would also hope that the deer hunter is a good enough shot to kill the deer instantly. If the Pit Bulls were shot, I wouldn't like that either, but for heaven sake, hanging, electrocuting, beating there's no "sport" in that. You are comparing apples and oranges, little man.
