If you have a doctor's note saying you cannot cut your hair because you have a severe sun sensitivity disorder, in the state of Texas, can a school not accept the doctors note, and force you to cut it to comply with the dress code?? I would really like some help on this. It is very important.

UV Rays irritate his skin causing his skin to break out on his face and that where it is the worst. He has a severe form of psoriasis and his hair keeps the UV rays from hitting his face as bad, all I want to know if they can LEGALLY deny his doctor's notes. Details are not important.

OKAY DETAILS DO NOT MATTER LIKE I SAID. I JUST WANT TO KNOW IF THAT IS LEGAL. HE DOES HAVE A F*CKING LIFE OUTSIDE OF SCHOOL WHERE HE DOES HAVE TO GO OUTSIDE. DETAILS NOT IMPORTANT. Thanks to the one person who has actually answered the question and did not try to prove me wrong.

Sun exposure: Lengthy exposure to a dry climate with low relative humidity can make psoriasis worse. For many people, sun exposure during the summer helps to clear psoriasis. However, people who are sun-sensitive find that psoriasis flares up when skin is exposed to the sun. The sun's UV rays actually help the vast majority of people with psoriasis. However, for a very small minority (less than 5%), sunlight can aggravate the condition. Sunburn may also cause psoriasis to flare up.

OK am not either a doctor or a lawyer but think that it would be rather stretching the point that a doc would give one for that reason............not saying you are lying at all but how does the length of your hair play into effect with sun or not, also what does the school district say in their guidelines.

regards

well when you are asking a question some details are actually needed..........rather think that it will be thrown out as from the scant details you have given it appears your male friend is trying to pull a fast one with let my hair hang all over my face as an excuse, but then that's just my opinion.

link VERY informative...........truly hope he can get it sorted out in a way that works for him regards

Cool question but weak on the facts from what I can tell. One of the way people treat psoriasis is by buying UV lights b/c sunlight actually helps cure the problem. Since there is no sunlight inside a classroom, I can't see where that would be a problem as long as they let him wear a ballcap or something when he is outside, though again I think that the logic on this one is a little weak.

School dress codes are based on the premise that the school has a valid reason to enforce certain behaviors and restrictions.

However, more important reasons always trump (override) those general rules -- if they can be proven. This may or may not be a case where the medical condition is sufficient justification for breaking the rules (but probably is).

There are two approaches -- one, he violates the rules, then sues the school based on a justification defense holding that the punishment was invalid because of his medical condition.

Two, he sues the school initially -- before being punished -- asking for an injunction preventing the school from enforcing the rule against him based on his medical condition.

In either case, he (or his parents) need to talk to a lawyer licensed in that state to find out their best legal options.

I know Texas gets a lot of sun but, how much is in the classrooms? He can wear protection outside after school. I agree that I can't see a doctor writing the note. It would be his parents fight anyways.
