It has a lot to do with hormones. At least that is what the Scientists would say. I personally think it is a lot more complicated than that.

"that time of the month" not only brings on hormonal changes but can leave a woman to feel self conscious.

Not only does she have bloating that makes her feel bad about her body. But she also has to deal with making sure she wears clothes that accommodate for that time of the month. Making sure that she has all the supplies she needs, and all the extra trips to the bathroom to make sure that she hasn't messed up her clothes and do what she needs to do.

Then there is the entire fact that she if feeling messy, not to mention dirty, tired and emotional.
Over all, for some of us, its lucky we make it out of bed at all during that time of month.

My advise to you: don't take it personal, It will be better in a week or so, and try to be understanding.

There really is a chemical imbalance in the brain cause by the hormone fluctuation. It just makes us a little bit irritable. I never used to believe in it until well into my 20's and I finally noticed that every single time the days b4 my period r screwed. There are meds some women take just on the few days they're afflicted which seem to work OK. Be grateful because the reason we have it is because we are the vessels of life and if your mom didn't have her hormone/cranky moments your butt wouldn't be here to ask about it! :) Just try to say as little as possible, stay out of the line of fire, and lay low...Oh and rub her feet and tell her she's amazing..that's another cure for pms.

You try walking around with a bulky pad on or having some plastic and cardboard tampon stuffed up you. While having searing cramps, feeling bloated, tired alot and still having to put up with friends, family, work and significant other. Its really not the best thing to go through. But just one of mother nature's oh so sweet gifts.

P.S. To the previous poster, I don't too much either, but as I have gotten a bit older, I have had more intense cramps and feel more tired though. But outwardly when I'm in class or with friends no one really knows either. I sort of think its a perk or an advantage over some chicks that go totally nuts, lol.

"YOU GALS"? Are you deliberately provoking nasty replies or just a poor choice of words?

Many women have cramps or other uncomfortable physical symptoms. As well, hormones can cause some people to be cranky.

As well, that time of the month is just a nuisance. What with making sure you always have a supply of 'feminine hygiene products' and changing of same and watching to make sure there hasn't been a leak, it's just an annoyance. And you know it will happen again next month.

Girls don't have to get grumpy during menses. There are medicines to help if they choose to use them. Midol, Tylenol, and other meds resolve pain. A woman can take water pills and there will be no cramping and bloating. Unfortunately, not all women are well-informed. When I know my time is coming, I prepare ahead of time so there is never any pain. It is just good preparation. Women need to know their cycle and be prepared with proper meds and the grumpy gal will not exist anymore.

Hormones...and the fact that you guys pick on us for it does not make it any better.
Consider this...Suddenly you start bleeding from your area...we will call it that for censorship purposes. Then you either have to "plug it up" or walk around with something between your legs that is about as comfortable as putting a phone book down your pants. Oh, shoot, you're heavy right now and you just ruined your favorite boxers...dangit! All this time, you have aches and pains all around your body, mainly in your lower back and lower abdomen. You feel dirty and gross but there is nothing you can do about it. You are just frustrated over all of this and just a little moody and want to be left alone when your girlfriend says "God, you're so cranky! Is it that time of the month again?"
Food for thought buddy

I agree with a big thumbs up to all the women!! Try bleeding for 5 or 9 days in a row with hormone raging, cramping in you belly, blooating, breast tenderness, and so on. Men who dont understand will pay the price of never learning to love us women for who we are and will lose our compasion for you when you get kicked in between the legs.

Ha...good question...I guess you can say PMS and we are inblanced...we are losing alot of blood and little things can irk us...I think the best thing to do is be nice or give the girl some room..it is normal to cry, be mean and even upset or "down"...my boyfriend sometimes knows when it's my time of the month cause I am more emotional than what I usually am. I try not to be a jerk but sometimes I cannot help it. God Bless...I hope this helped! :o)

Honestly, and you can ask my husband he wouldnt even know i was on my period, unless i tell him, because i dont change.... I think it could be because of the hormones, or the cramps that woman get,,
Or just the fact that for years now society has said that women are b*tches on the period, and that is just what htye become...
Just like being pregnant, all women scare the one who is pregnant and she starts to feel those bad things, and starts to freak out, society stereotypes everything, and it doesnt help in relationships or anything for that matter....

Other than that i dont know what to tell you, woman need to get off their high horse, and jusr be themselves, just because everyone believes they are bitches doesnt mean they have to be....

Hope this helped.

Well, perhaps sometime you should try having ounces of blood flow from your body while your uterus feels like someone is doing the Mexican hat dance on top of it. Oh, and perhaps your body should start secreting crazy hormones all over, making your chest hurt, your back hurt, and your body tired. ALL AT THE SAME TIME. Then maybe you would understand. :)
