Would the response be the same if it was a Democrat in the situation?

Who was that guy that had a wife and was gay and was a democrat and decided to leave politics because he was gay and that was more important? I can't remember his name but this whole thing seems about the same to me. This guy left his wife for a gay lover he was sleeping with while married. And that got no criticism from Democrats.
Clearly a double standard I think.

It isn't just the gay issue. The US Senator was soliciting sex in a men's restroom. Even if it were somehow heterosexual, it was still in an airport restroom with a total stranger.

Also, this gay Senator is married with children. Yet he was soliciting sex from a stranger in a restroom. How disgusting is that?

A TOTAL STRANGER IN A PUBLIC RESTROOM!!!

I'm gay and leaning libertarian and I couldn't agree with you more i mean gay guys are closeted reguardless of their political party. To be honest with you I don't think such a situation needs so much attention even if a democrat was closeted like you said, being in the closet is something that all gay men experience at some point in there lives.

They are not making a big deal about a Republican being a closet gay. They are making a big deal because he is a hypocrite.
He bashed Clinton for being a nasty, naughty boy. (His words.) Hey, that was a consensual oral experience.
He has fostered legislation to ban gay rights. (But he is not gay, and never has been. HIS OWN WORDS)
He has professed to be Pro-Family. (What does that mean to his wife and children if he's cruising in a TOILET?)
Democrats are not usually closeted. (Gerry Studds, Barney Frank.) That's a major difference.
Governor McGreevey of New Jersey Democrat (was ruined by his dreadful behavior: sexual harrassment of his lover, using his position as governor to advance and use his lover.)
So, what do you think they should do with the Republican Idaho Senator who cruises a policeman?
Try him for stupidity?
Ignore him?
What?

It smacks a lot more of hypocrisy coming from the conservative side of the spectrum. These are the people who oppose gay marriage, go on a crusade if someone mentions homosexuality as a social fact in a high school textbook, tout family values, court the fundamentalist vote, etc...

I'm not saying the politicians who are gay are solely responsible for this image of the party, but they are adhering to a party who has made strong views about all this very clear in the past. So it smacks of: "Do as I say, not as I do".

Because Craig was such a hypocrite, which is always so much more reprehensible than someone who just admits it and moves on.

It's the whole "us vs. them" mentality which is prevalent throughout society today. It seems that as long as you have an "enemy" to focus on, you do not have to face your own shortcomings. Politics is a virtual breeding ground for this type of behavior.

I could care less actually. Be it a Democrat OR Republican.

Because cruising for anonymous sex in a public place doesn't really fit with his "family values" rhetoric.

The GOP strategically uses their opposition to the gay lifestyle to win elections.

It's called hypocrisy.
