I could go into labor anytime (the doc says). Im 2 cm dilated and I was wondering about how much you think the baby could weigh and about how long do you think the baby will have to stay in the hospital? I know its different with everyone, Im just looking for your opinion. Thanks Everyone!

You can avoid going into labor by stay as inactive and horizontal as possible. Even a week would make all the difference in the world.

Having a baby 5 weeks early is considered more than premature. Survival rates and long term health effects change a huuuge amount between 35 and 36 weeks.

Lay down, sleep, rest, and waste away a week or two. If you could make it to 37 weeks it'd be the difference between a 6 week stay in the hospital and a life of serious health issues, and a normal baby who needs to recoup for 2-3 days after birth.

I work with a woman that had her baby at 34 weeks, and she weighed 5 lbs 14 oz.... They did keep her in the NICU until she got the eating thing situated (about 3 weeks), but she was perfectly healthy! Also, another girlfriend had both her babies at 36 weeks... they come home with her two days later.

Don't listen to the people that tell you how horrible it is to go early.... If you've been taking care of yourself and eating right, the baby will be fine! It's not like the old days - care of a preemie is so much more advanced.

You and the baby will be fine!

I had my son at 35 weeks. He weighed 4 lbs 6 oz. He was in the hospital for 11 days. Have you had an ultrasound lately by any chance? They usually make an estimate on the weight of the baby.

Also, have they given you steroid shots for the baby's lung development? Are you on anything to stop labor?
