The chances of the man's offspring are great--if he molests them too. And of course, the example he sets will have a lot to do with it--but the offspring still have a choice. It's not destiny or anything--but sure hard to break if it's done to them...

I'm not sure what causes people to become a child molester but I don't think that it's genetics. I know the children who's father's have been rapists and molesters and they showed no signs of becoming the same. And who ever said that child molesters come from single family house holds of single mothers because of their abusive boyfriends doesn't know what their talking about. Because that would mean that child molesters would be mainly women and we know that they are mostly men. I"m not saying that women don't abuse children we know that they do but for the most part they are men and they mostly abuse girls. Of course there are exceptions to the rule as we know. But as a rape survivor I've read about as much as I could and there for I know of what I speak.

There has never been a determined correlation between pedophilia and genetics (speaking nature strictly, not nurture) of that I aware. (Though if someone finds some please let me know, I'm not an expert so you might want to double check me on this). Pedophilia and those who commit such acts against children were often, but not always, victims themselves -- there is a strong correlation between the abusive environment and the victim becoming the perpetrator. However, most children who were molested do not become abusers themselves and not all abusers were abused (though perhaps it can be argued that there has to be some sort of disturbance?).

i think it has less to do with genetics and much more to do with example and environment.if a child is molested especially by family members at a very young age it may increase the chance they will simply because children seem to repeat what they see or what they have done to them.i think it is important to keep a close eye on kids together especially if one has been molested or raped to be sure they do not victimize younger children than themselves.i am not saying that they all become molesters ,i am saying it bears keeping a close eye on them and counseling is mandatory so they can deal with this trauma without repeating it.good luck.

I don't know, and often wonder about all the countless females that commit the same crime against small boys and girls. Will their children grow up into monsters?
I do know 1 thing: Environment is a factor;
Children from single parent homes are 9 times more likely to "learn" to become child molesters, partially due to abusive "boyfriends" their mother has coming in and out of their home.

What I learned in psych class was that it isn't genetically passed, but it is LEARNED behavior. People do that because it was done to them and it formed their concept of "normal" sexuality. Horrible.
