I think he was the border patroll.... that's why he was just sitting there drinking cheap vodka & got so drunk that he fell off the wall!

Humpty was a cannon on the wall of St Marys of the Wall in Clochester, used by the Royalists to hold off the Roundheads in 1648. When it fell, the Royalists (kings men and horses) couldn't fix it.
