I can think of four possibilities:
1. Speakers not plugged in. .
2. Speakers are shot. Try using headphones.
3. Sound card is shot.
4. Drivers for the SC are bad. Try reinstalling them.

the 2 volume controls that are responsible for getting volume is Master Volume & Wave. click on start, control panel, sounds speech & audio devices, click on sounds and audio devices, a window will pop up, click on the sounds tab, set the sound scheme to windows default and click okay.

if it is a desktop, and you have seperate speakers, make sure they are plugged in. be specific.
