If you replaced the Internet with a secure system then wouldn't it be a Internet when it was all said and done. The idea of a network that can be accessed by any entry point (your isp) is the concept of the Internet. There is no way that it will be replaced. It will evolve and be upgraded but the term Internet and what it does will always be the same.

Harry, it seems to me that security is in the eye of the beholder. If the Internet were to be replaced with something more "secure" eventually someone will learn how to hack it.

Depends. You can run secure networks over the public network, but you have to work at it. Implementing a secure public network would be extremely expensive and complicated.
