No, the big mistake was allowing the Shah to be overthrown by the people in charge now. But since that was Carter, a Democrat it won't get menctioned.

No, Iran is not that close to getting an nuke, and, unjust though it may be, it tends to be the president in office at the time that takes the blame. So the next president, whoever she (or he) might be, will be more likely to be stuck with that legacy.

I am curious to understand what you are suggesting. Are you saying that if Bush hadn't invaded Iraq, which was apparently a mistake, that we might have invaded Iran instead?

No, it's not the USA's job to de-arm Iran. If we invaded, he'd be pilloried for that, too. It's Iran's and the Soviet Union and China's fault they're armed. Not the USA's. Nor Bush's.
