...in any way? Or is it just a pasttime?

It's funny. I actually stumbled on Y!A when I was looking for an answer. I ended up finding the same question I was looking for an answer for so I answered it and I got chosen Best answer. Needless to say, I was hooked!

The way I see it, if I can truly help someone by answering a question they may have, then yes, it improves me. I'm always striving to help others. Once a public servant, always a public servant.

Yes, spending time on Y!A also is a past time, but I feel that I'm getting something out of it too. I'm learning more about myself by reading others' answers. I see different points of view from my own beliefs. One of my goals is to learn to think outside the box. By reading about how others think and feel, it's opening my eyes to a whole different way of thinking.

I've also laughed a lot on Y!A. There are some truly hilarious people on here. I love humor; I think it's an important quality to have.

Thanks for the wonderful question!

Best wishes!

No, it doesn't improve anything, except maybe your spelling, but you can share your knowledge, and I enjoy doing that because a lot of kids can't afford a teacher, or have a clue as to where to go to get help, so I like steering them in the right direction. I play classical guitar and teach it so if I can help some one with that I'm pleased to do so. The only thing that aggravates me is that I've been voted 16 % best answers for the last 100 best answers, maybe even more, and I went to 17% best answer finally and then the next day I was down to 16% again, I don't understand that, it seems like the more best answers you get the slower you move up, it's weird !!!! I guess you have to have about 500 best answers before you go up a percent !!!!! I'm not a good sleeper and my computers in my bedroom and so are my guitars, and at 2:00 in the morning I'd rather type then wake up the whole house playing music, this is a quite pastime that I can enjoy doing without getting shoes thrown at me !!!!!!!!

I view it as a pasttime that allows me to share some of the hodge podge of knowledge I have gained in my life with younger people who are going through things that I have gone through. I like to think that I have helped some people, and whether or not it improves me, it feels good to know that some of my life experiences can help others. I think it helps improve my understanding of things I am interested in too, because when I read a question that interests me, and I don't know the answer, I take the time to research it and find the correct answer. In that way, I am improving myself. So, my answer is that it is a pasttime that improves me and hopefully helps others : )

If you take the questions seriously, it can help you understand yourself better. And reading other people's responses can help you see different points of view which can help to make you a more open-minded person.

I also think you can use it as an opportunity to practice spelling and grammar, and to increase your general writing skills.

Alternatively, if you just stick to answering polls and surveys, jokes, etc, it can be just a past time.

I generally answer technical questions concerning networks, computers, cell phones. It's not as frivoulous as playing games on line. In a sense I'm actually serving as help desk tech for a wider audience albeit unpaid.

Improve? No. But as I'm very competative, I do like getting points and having my answer picked as the best.

I usually come here when I am depressed such as now. Not to make others listen but to speak to the wind, not to anyone, just to speak what you have on you're mind

No, it's just to help/criticize/agree with people. I don't learn anything here, and I'm not improved by helping someone. I was already whatever I would have had to be to help them.
