No. I have several teacher friends, and also in my family, that look forward to going back after being off of work a few weeks. I think it's the same for kids. After a few weeks, they are bored. Teachers if you ask, love their jobs, and I am sure after a short vacation they are wanting to get back into the classroom. They are very devoted to their jobs, from what I have seen and heard first hand. Plus being off for almost 3 mos. doesn't mean they don't get paid. They are paid salary, so they earn for the whole year, at least the state where I live in.

I'm going to go against everyone else and say i feel really bad. The kids now are very mouthy and very rude to the teachers. If i ever talked to a teacher the way the kids do now, i would get my *** sent to the office for the STRAP! I feel bad that teachers are not allowed to discipline the kids at all without facing huge problems with the school. If a kid needs some tuning in then do it!!!!

I'm a retired teacher so they have my deepest sympathy. And for all those who wail about teachers having the summer off, etc. do your employers require you to attend college and bump up your degree regularly? In this state, a bachelors is not enough. You have to go for a master's, and more. You might work 50 weeks a year but you got the job with just a high school diploma, didn't you? and you stopped there. Do you want to trade places?

~Let me see. On average, they only work 180 to190 days a year, have a great retirement plan and excellent health insurance (including medical, dental, vision, drugs). In addition to their spring breaks and winter breaks, they get the whole summer off. They have the freedom to humiliate and terrorize children if they so choose. If they don't feel like preparing lesson plans, they can purchase lesson plans developed by other teachers. They have the power to label and stigmatize a child for years.
Do I feel badly for them? Not at all.
I feel badly for the few really caring, creative teachers who try to instill a love for learning in their students while working in an environment that rewards mediocrity.

No. Why should I ? I work all year long and don't get an annual salary for 3/4 of a year working. I like and respect teacher's and the one's I know are actually glad to be starting back doing what they like and worked/studied hard to do.

Actually, no, because they really do not get paid for the two months they are not at work. So, I think for anyone working for a school district, going back to work is actually good! You can start paying your bills on time.

No. I am looking forward to returning to work (next week). For those who think that we had the summer off, for many it was spent preparing for the fall.
We do not get paid for the summer months when we are "off"
