In my undergraduate career, I didn't realize I got my BA degree in the College of Liberal Arts with a concentration of Spanish LITERATURE. I think that's the reason why my GPA was low. I kept wondering why they made us take all these History & Literature courses. I wanted to major in Spanish but have a concentration in Spanish GRAMMAR & WRITING so I can get a Master's in Translating & Interpreting. No WONDER why my GPA was so low! I got a 2.8 in my major & a 2.3 overall. If I would've known then what I know now, my GPA would've been higher. Thanks to my ignorance, I can't even get a good job. I was told that a BA in Spanish Literature won't get me anywhere but teaching, ONLY if my GPA was higher. I feel like a dummy now. What are your recommendations?

Literature is my weak spot. That's why I didn't do so well. I'm also poor in History, too.

How could you not realize what program you were in? Perhaps you are trying to say that you majored in the wrong thing and you didn't realize how hard it was until you went through it. Everyone makes mistakes. At least you were able to graduate. If you want to get a masters degree, I would contact the dept administrator, admissions office, and professors at the school of your choice. Ask them for advice on what you can do to get admitted into their program. Also, I would ask the professors if you can volunteer to help them with research work. Most professors do research in their area of study and they are always looking for help. That way, you can get to know the prof and can get great recommendation letters.

Good luck!

This doesn't make much sense to me. Beyond the first year or two of language classes, almost all classes in any Spanish major are Spanish literature classes, so while your school may have called it something different, I don't think you took courses that are much different than what ANYONE in a Spanish major anywhere would have taken. And it certainly wouldn't have had any impact on your GPA; your grades are your grades, regardless of your major. I don't know who told you that Spanish literature was only good for teaching. Your school may have had a concentration in grammar and writing, but most schools don't, so you have exactly the same background as most people who graduate with a Spanish major. Other than a low GPA, you should be fine.

Well, I would recommend you to get to a University...even a private one to get your Masters. At least with Masters you can teach at University level and make decent money. Why is your GPA so low? Even if you took wrong classes by mistake, why didn't you get good grades in them?
Anyways, try to focus on your future. Without Master degree you are doomed. That degree you have right now, doesn't worth much. Try to go for higher degree.

There are several good ideas already stated here. I like the one just above mine the best. I do think you need to talk to at least a few people in the Spanish department as well as to the people who make the rules for majors and programs, and see if you can take a few make-up courses to modify your final degree.
