Procrastinating means waiting to begin doing something which could be begun now, especially when this is done repeatedly. You may have known a student who has a month to work on a research or term paper. The first week he complains that he does not know a good topic, but he does not actually spend any time trying to find a good topic. The next week he goes to the library to find books, but because he does not have a topic, it is easy to become distracted and talk to friends there instead. He is procrastinating. His time to do the paper is already 50% over, and he has not begun.

Procrastinating is finding all kinds of ways to avoid doing something you have to do. You get up on Saturday morning, and you have one half-hour chore to do. Instead of doing it, you first play a computer game for a while. Then you hang with your friends. Then you go to the pizza place with some more friends. Then you play ball. Then you watch television. By now it is late enough (and you are tired enough) so that doing that half-hour chore seems like a major problem. And the worst part is that all day long, instead of just having fun, you always heard this little voice in your mind that reminded you that you still had that chore to do.

That's procrastination. Doing the unpleasant thing first and then enjoying ourselves would be much better, but how many of us can talk ourselves into actually doing it?

I would, but I don't really want to right now, I have other things to think about and do, maybe I will get around to it later.

Procrastination is the fine art of putting things off until later, and if you are good, much later. If you are really good, they you won't have to do them at all because the cat/dog/fish died because you never got around to feeding them.

Procrastinating is the same as putting something off until later--or avoiding doing something.

It is putting things off--making them NOT be a priority

I HATE doing dishes, so I "procrastinate" doing them until there's no clean forks.

It's when you wait until the last minute to do something you are supposed to do.

For instance, if you have to write a 3 page paper by Friday morning, and you don't start until Thursday night.
