let J be the years now. Then J - 2 is the Jamie's age 2 years ago. And J + 9 is her age 9 years from now

J - 2 = .5(J + 9)
2J - 4 = J + 9
J = 13

so she is 13 now

let her present age=x

age after 9years=x+9

age before 2years=x-2
given that 2(x-2)=(x+9)

or x=9+4=13
