Should I wait until fall 2008 and apply for admissin for fall 2009 for Berkeley? or apply to other schools like Boston U, UIUC, UMich, Rutgers (new brunswick) OSU, Pitt, SUNY Buffalo (and go in as a fall 2008 student) and forget about going to Berkeley?

This will be my 3rd year attending community college (although i'm still considered a sophmore since you cant get a 4 year degree at the community college) and I would prefer to stay in the SF Bay area, but if I go to berkeley, i would be 2 years behind people that graduated from HS the same year I did (which is 2005) If i apply for other schools, i would only be 1 year behind.

what should i do? what would you do?

i need an extra year because Berkeley only accepts fall transfer students and my counselor told me that if i applied this year, Berkeley will only see my grades up until summer quarter 2007. She said that my Fall 07, winter 08 and spring 08 grades wont be posted by the time they recieve the application and make their decision.

If your main basis for your decision comes from worrying about your age as compared to other students, go ahead and shoot for Berkeley... I'm 25 years old, working on my bachelors... some students are as young as 18, and others are in their 50's... age REALLY shouldn't matter... as long as you're working on something you're proud of...

And if Berkeley is what you definitely want, you should go for it!!! Maybe you could be working on some basic classes at a smaller university while you're waiting for acceptance to Berkeley... (just make sure you are sure the classes you take can be transferred)...

You've got a lifetime ahead of you.... don't make a decision you may regret later....

Good luck and kudos to you valuing an education!:)

I would wait until 2009, only because its harder to transfer (the admission acceptance rate is at some of these schools upto 4x LOWER),, also the Class of 2008 is going to be one of the hardest acceptance yet (mainly because 2008 is the class with all of the echo boomers) and is known to be one of the most well-rounded group of students yet!.. it is supposed to calm down in 2009.. so i strongly suggest to wait one more year

I'm not sure why you would need to wait an extra year for Berkeley. I wouldn't worry about being behind other people, but I'd hate to see you waste a whole year; what if you don't get in there?
