I lost my hearing for about five months once due to broken eardrums and a massive infection. It was very lonely. I couldn't listen to music or watch TV or talk on the phone or even carry on any type of conversation. People got tired of having to scream at the top of their lungs 37 times for me to finally get what they were saying. All I could do was read and watch TV with the closed caption option turned on -- big fun. I was sooooo happy when my hearing returned!

Hearing, it would be very difficult, but if it was only temporary it would be the best option, because learning how to do so many things you need to do for independence without seeing would take more than a year to learn, just walking in your own house would take time. Hearing would be difficult too, especially with cell phones and such now, but you could still do many things you did before, without relearning it.

If I had to lose one or the other, I'd rather lose my hearing. There are so many things in place to accomodate the hard of hearing or those with total hearing loss, and not so much for those who are blind. In my state the blind have the chirping traffic lights, braille, and of course guide dogs. The hearing impaired have special phone systems, closed caption for television, light warnings in their home with the doorbell or phone rings, etc. If I had to choose, I'd lose my hearing.

Sight. You can always grasp beauty through so many different ways that sight might not be as important as listening to such wonderful things in this world.

I'd be lost without both. If I had to pick I'd say loose my hearing for a year. I'm very detailed oriented so I look at everything.

Hearing. I would love to be able to not hear some of the people I have to deal with on a daily basis.
