The American Friends Service Committee reports that Montana taxpayers, by the end of 2007, will have spent nearly $700 million to pay for the war in Iraq. Worse yet, 21 young Montanans have died in the war. Other Montanans have been physically maimed and mentally damaged in the war, a total of 211 casualties from Montana, so far. Just think what we could have done for Montana with $700 million, if only we had spent our tax money here instead of supporting the privatization of a war for profit. We could have built 85 new elementary schools, for example. We could have built 6,687 new affordable housing units for Montanans providing homes for Montana families. Or, we could have provided 148,203 university scholarships for Montana students!

While I don't agree with your analogy and opinions for the reasons behind the war, I will say this. I don't know how much it cost my state (CA) but I'm sure it carried the brunt of the cost. The amount of taxes that came of of CA to pay for the war pales in comparison to what it cost me and several other Soldiers. It cost me my marriage and a year away from my children that I can never get back. I am not complaining. I believe as many Soldiers who are serving and have served in the war, that we are doing what is morally right and it is for the good of Iraq. It cost several their lives. Others lost limbs. We all lost something. You know what I don't hear? I don't hear Soldiers that have served in Iraq saying that it was an unjust war.

This is a ridiculous, and selfish question. The same could be said for millions of tax dollars spent on rebuilding Germany, France, Japan, and numerous other countries after wars. What has happened because we assisted monetarily? Japan is one of the most productive countries in the world, and an excellent trading partner here in the states. Germany is a great ally, and trading partner. France is a good ally as well. Keeping all the money in the United States is not what is needed. As much as many people would like to think that we can isolate ourselves from the world and be fine, that is not the case. 9/11 should have taught us all that for one thing. America is just as much part of this world as any other country. The success of the United States has a big portion based on the success of the rest of the world. If America could grow and build everything as well as the other countries that we get those items or services from we might be able to be self-sustaining. The reality is that we cannot, and therefore have a stake in the survival and success of other countries.

Questions like this will disappear when Iraq becomes a stable government, and becomes another good trading partner like the other countries I have mentioned. Will it be easy? Nothing this monumental is. Will it be cheap? No, nothing this grand in size ever will be. Will it be worth it when the terrorists are finally pushed from its borders by not only the US military, but the Iraqi natives as well after having enough of foreigners coming in to cause nothing except chaos? Yes. That's what it all boils down to.

God Bless America, AND the world!

It costs a lot less to fight the Radical Islamists over there, than it would cost if the war was here. Think about it. The 911 incident alone cost several Billion Dollars. Freedom is not Cheap.

So, you're complaining because your state has borne something around one tenth of one percent of the cost of the Iraq War?
