We need more than just a song and a flag to include our Indigenous people fully into our society. The Howard Government's interference in the Aboriginal Communities in NT and WA, on the face of it seems very laudable. But when you really look at what is happening you will see the absolute disdain and disrespect that this Government has for these people. This new "emergency" legislation has enabled this Government to take away all that these people have strived and fought for in the past 50 years. And it is all being done under the guise of helping the children of these communities. We need a government policy that truly integrates Aboriginal people into this Australian community and that recognises the wrongs that have been done and the willingness to go forward together. Not another paternalistic White Australia policy that further subjugates the Indigenous people and strips them of their land and cultural heritage. Then we can get a song and a flag that will include all Australians.
