Slice the metal part nice and clean with a tubing cutter and use a piece of 1/4" gasoline hose to bridge the gap. If it broke at the radiator, it's a flare type fitting. Look for the oldest guy at the hardware store and he'll show you the tool to flare copper tubing. It's very low pressure, and you don't really need $100 stainless lines.

while this is an older car....the tranny lines off of some new ones will fit. If the compression fitting didn't work that is odd. That was what I was going to suggest at first until you said it didn't work....perhaps you have the fitting in a bend where it won't seal properly. There is not a lot of pressure there so try taking some gas hose and putting it inline with some clamps...I have done this many times and it's a good hose for transmission fluid to flow through. Try a salvage yard to get new lines for the car.

Hope this helps

I've used compression fittings on alot of vehicles that didn't want to spend the money to have the line replaced.
If your having problem with tring to reconnect the line using just compression fittings, try this and see if it works.

Go to the hardware store and get two compression fittings with a female adapter on one end. and then get a barbed fitting the same size as your compression fitting female end.

buy a piece of fuel line or hose the size of your barbed fitting and two hose clamps. Use pipe thread tape to connect the barbed fitting and compression fitting together.

Then cut the cooler line down so that your fitting and your hose will fit in between. Then install fittings and then hose.

This will work in place of cooler line. But I wouldn't use just rubber hose on a straight cooler line, the pressure will blow the line off easily.

This should take care of you for a good while.
Hope this helps!

use a piece of high pressure rubber line for this, and use double small clamps that will hold it for a long time, they make a special hose for this ,ask at any parts store and they will have it,good luck on it.

Use a good piece of hose rated for temperature and oil products with two screw clamps for a temp fix.
