you need to adjust it,but whats causing the jerking on it is the fly wheel needs to be turned on it,it has heat spots in it,and that causes it to catch and grab in a few spots, before it should,it will continue to do this until the flywheel is turned on it,you,ll also have to replace the clutch ,and pressure plate on it,heats spots on them cant be removed, you just replace them, good luck with it.

Sounds like the clutch is worn or out of adjustment. Adjust to engage/disengage at about 1" pedal travel. If that doesn't work, likely you'll need to replace it.

Warped, pitted, and micro-cracked flywheel from clutch friction overheating it.
Glazed clutch disc.
Worn pressure plate.
Expect to replace clutch, pressure plate, and throwout bearing. (pilot bearing too while you're at it.)
Remove the flywheel and have it resurfaced.
Or, there is oil on the clutch.

It sounds to me as if it's just plain 'ol wore out. It's worn to the point of metal to metal contact, and it's getting grabby, instead of a smooth function. This will mean the flywheel will need to be re-machined as well.

The throwout bearing is not working smoothly or you have air in the system. If it is the throwout have the shop use a marine (for use in watercraft) grease to lubricate it.
