Yahoo's pretty vague when it comes to letting us know how they pick, but here's what they do tell us
-It's per category. If you're jumping between categories (like me) then you'll never get it (yippee!)
-It has NOTHING to do with "best answer" percentage directly. Mouse over some "top contributers" to see their best answer percentage yourself. I've seen 6 percenters with the tag.
-It's determined weekly.
My guess, is that they're hand picked by people. Which means the best way to get it is to just post a lot. Even if you aren't posting good answers or helpful answers. Volume, volume, volume. Every post increases your chance of being seen, and having someone review your posting profile.
From Yahoo itself
"A Top Contributor is a member of the Answers community who has shown that they are knowledgeable in a particular category. Each Answers user can be a top contributor in up to three categories.
The top contributor badge is dynamic; you earn it or lose it depending on your recent participation in a particular category. The more actively you contribute, the more likely you will earn a badge. Just like featured users or category leaders, it's another way to feature community members who might otherwise be overlooked."

Yahoo has changed the rules so it is much more difficult to get a top contributor badge now. Somebody else who answers this will cut & paste the new rules, but the bottom line is, it just takes more time & energy to get one than the badge is worth, and if you do get one, the idiots here will be jealous & resentful of you, and thumb down and report on you just to be nasty.

You have enough percentage to warrant a top contributor badge (10% or higher) however you need to answer more questions and spend a little more time on Y/A. Yahoo will get around (in time) to giving it back, if you follow this advice.

I wouldn't hold your breath for one. ALL of us P&S Top Contributors LOST our badges for NOTHING. All the hard work and time spent for yahoo to just "yank" them from us. From what I understand it's because P&S isn't a "worthy" catagory to earn a badge in.

Your percentage of best answers has to be 20% or more to get the tag.

I have one, and I have no idea how I got it. I had well over 50,000 points, and nothing... then one day, it appeared. It still goes away from time to time, and then comes back.
Only the Shadow knows... ;-)

Contribute more? lol. I dunno - I've never had one. Ask lots of questions, give lots of answers, vote for best answers, thumbs up, thumbs down...rock the system - I dunno what else to tell you! lol. Have fun!
