what happens if the vampire wasnt a christian before they became one of the undead?
like what if they were formerly a buddist and the cross had no signifigance?

It say that Vampires are pysochally repeled by their former religion. So no a Buddist vampire would be repelled by a buddha. A jewish vampire would be repelled by a torah or Star of david.
They reason the Cross is so popular is because a lot vampire myth srung from europe

Let's take this out to it's logical end. A Christian is bitten by a Vampire. The Christian still has the same religious belief and believes in being "saved by Jesus." There is no book or evidence that I can find in fiction or Non-fiction that states a person loses their religious beliefs or protections when bitten by a vampire. Therefore. the cross and holy water bit has to be what is called Artistic License to allow for a weapon or a twist to a book or movie to bring it to a climax.
A Christian Vampire that did not take life would be committing no designated sin.

There is nothing in any myths to point that any thing like a cross or the like will do anything to a vampire. The Vampire Lestat wore one around his neck

Vampires are supposed to be created by the devil, therefore anything that repels evil would repel a vampire. In Vampire mythos, it doesn't matter what is believed but what is real (and vampire mythos is generally Christian, so...)

There are no religion that will help like cross etc. It is your strong believe that will help the most because inside us there is guardian that will help you to the end of need when guardian had seen your strength fighting with no fear he will surely stand beside you. but it is only a theory?

One book I read said that if you didn't respect the cross, bible or holy water in life then it had no fear for you in the afterlife. That may have been for ghosts though.
Probably decapitation and a wooden cross would be your best bet - non-demonination weapons.
