Not Bobby Garwood. Not a US soldier, but an enemy POW in the US.

Georg Gartner or Gaertner , escaped Sept.21, 1945, surrendered 1985.
Published a book called " Hitler's Last Soldier in America."
Didn't see this when first posted, tough one. There's not alot of info on him. I never heard about it before,thanks.

I think you mean Bobby Garwood, played by Ralph Maccio in the movie the bobby garwood story.
