What can I do to keep from being bored? I plan on staying up late the night before because we are leaving at 5 am, so my theory is that I'll sleep most of the way. I have my mp3/mp4 player, but I get restless. What do you do on car trips?

Extra info: I'm fourteen (almost fifteen) year old girl, so colouring books or gameboys don't really work for me!

You guys make me sound like I hate my family! haha, That's really not the case, I just usually have alot of energy and can't sit still for all that long! So far there are alot of good ideas! I think I may make it though this after all.

I wasn't saying that I don't like gameboys because I'm too old, or even because I'm a girl, it's just because they seem to hurt my eyes when I play them, and I've never been much of a video game person. I ment no offense to anyone by not liking them! :)

Thank you to everyone by the way! I never expected so many answers!

Your MP3 player is key. Also, text your friends and put a good movie on your mp3/mp4 player

Well thankfully you have an MP3 player. Thats a big thing right there. You can actually talk to your family, haha, but if thats too much, why not bring a good book? Not into reading? Take a digital camera with you and snap pics from the car or at rest stops. Have a cell phone? Text friends to keep busy. Other than that I couldn't tell ya what else you could do. Sleeping, like you plan, is always good too.

Well, I'm fourteen too. I took a twelve hour bus ride to Washington DC for a school trip. All i did was take Dramamine and then I was good for the rest of the trip. Bring some magazines and tell your parents to take a rest stop or lunch break along the way. The mp3 player also helps.

Get some magazines, stay up superlate the night before, bring a digital camera and a notebook. Take pics and write down what you were thinking when you took the pictures, what you were listening to. And decide that you like games. Being fourteen (almost fifteen) does not make you too old for video games, as you are NEVER too old for video games! Or coulouring books for that matter!

WOW.... why wouldn't a game boy work for you?? I'm 53 years old and take my Nintendo DS with me everywhere I go so I have something to do when I get bored. I like "Brain Age" and "Puzzle Quest" a lot.
You could try playing games with your parents, try to outwit them. Games like 20 questions. OR, here's a thought, ask your parents questions about their childhood. an 8 hour drive is a good time to get to know each other.
How about starting a "trip Journal"?
The link below could give you a few ideas..

Okay listen to me. This is comming from somone who was in the passanger seat from florida to cali, cali to florida and then back from fla to cali. My mother was scared to death of flying. Get a book or two bring some sort of psp or nintendo ds. you also need a camera. You might see some pretty cool sights. I go pictures of a water spout and ddirt devil :) pen pencils and paper. Also we would lawyas play guess this voice. We would each take a turn doing cartoon characters voices and we would have to guess it. I spy a classic that will help ten min. go by lol! What else...your cell phone. And the rest is just sleeping............ Good luck onyour travles!

I love coloring books ! Buy a LARGE box of crayons and use them all
Read a really juicy novel
Every time the car stops get out and go for a good brisk walk.
Learn a new skill even crocheting !Who cares if you never do it again.
Make up a fantastic story
'collect' license plates
Day dream about your future
talk to your folks about something they did as kids ask them a few questions about your family

Maybe change your attitude. If you put in your mind that you'll have fun then you will. If you are already are preparing yourself to be bored, you'll be bored. I dont know how your family is but maybe talk to them? You are on vacation, people are different. Why not take the lead and make it fun for all?? Im not saying for the whole trip but part of it . Then you can sleep. Have a safe journey!

Sleep may just be your best bet. That way you won't have anything to be bored about. And listen to the music so you can drown out the other noise. I took a 27 hour ride from Texas to NY and I got through it, I'm sure you will too. Good luck!
