Here, public transportation is a snap..buses to everywhere, transfers are easy, and the cost is low for seniors....considering what it costs to run a car, pay for gas, pay for insurance, cost of housing the damned thing, cost and labor of cleaning the damned thing...IF I could get along without one, I would! I would certainly save about 5000.00 per year. But in Orange County CA, I cannot do without my car. If I had to, yes....I could do all by bus and by electric scooter/wheel chair. In smaller areas, I think that public transportation is a spotty thing.

There is a lot of public transportation available in my area. Usually the busses are late but rarely very late. The amount of people on the bus at one time depends on the time of day. I believe it costs 60 cents for seniors to ride here.

There's 51 routes. About ten operate 24/7. Cost for the elderly is $20 a month for an unlimited ride 30-day pass, with a photo ID issued by the transit agency. The ID is free. I think the single ride fare with the ID is 60 cents.

We have buses here that run on a regular basis, and if we don't have anything else to do for an hour or two, they can usually take us where we need to go. However, if we want to meet someone somewhere, or buy anything, or have a smooth and comfortable ride, we can't find that. The buses are loud, smelly, and bounce around a lot, plus the seats are hard and the steps are very tough to climb.

To go to my doctor, I would have to walk three blocks to a bus stop and hope it was on time, and then get off an hour later (a car takes 20 minutes) and walk uphill four more blocks. the story is pretty much the same for my dentist.

The grocery store is only one block away from the bus, and it only takes 15 or 20 minutes to get there, but how do I carry three or four bags of groceries?

There are special rates for seniors, but you have to go to the regional office to buy the coupons, or online.

We live in a small town, close to Houston, but the only public transportation we have is a taxi.(If you are lucky and want to pay the price) So,we drive it. Oh, there are those who will take seniors to appointments, grocery, etc.,they are anywhere from $8.00 to $10.00 or more per hour.

We have none but we have a senior citizen bus and it is free {. It takes them to center and once a week takes them to grocery store and to get their meds,,, We all pitch in around here and help the seniors and Lord I am one but have been blessed to be the care taker, Little towns are like that it has a heart and a personal hands on touch with people that need help. and our" grocery stores deliver groceries for a few dollars, but most seniors drive in this little town and have their own homes with housekeeper once a week.

It is pretty good and you can't beat the price if you are 60 or older. You can get a card, which does not have to be renewed, for $3.50 and ride the bus for free from there on.

It's pretty good. Senior citizens ride for 80 cents I think. There are some crazies on there, but there are crazies everywhere.
