The recommended sleeping time for an adult is six to eight hours nightly. Some adults can get by with less, and some need more. Only you know the number of hours required to feel rested.
To encourage you to get out of bed each morning, I suggest placing your alarm far away from your bed; perhaps even in another room. Just make sure you have a loud alarm. In order to shut off the alarm, you will then have to get out of bed. As soon as you stop the alarm, grab a frozen bag of vegetables from the freezer and massage your face. This will help revive you.
Placing a few ice cubes, wrapped in a paper towel or small cloth, gently massaged under your eyes will also help get you going.
If you have a friend who is willing to come by your place and wake you up each morning, you might consider trying that. Fix the coffee pot the night before, so all you have to do is "flick" a switch and you will have coffee in minutes. Share a cup with your friend.
I am not an early riser myself; but, after losing several very good jobs because I was habitually late for work, and receiving a low grade because I couldn't make it to class on time, I was motivated to get up and get there early!

The average amount of sleep required is 8 hours, however this can be more or less depending on your physiology. Ensure you are getting the minimum 8 hours and if you're still tired try increasing it every night by an hour to see if it helps - some people need 10 hours of sleep per night and it's just how their bodies work.
If that doesn't work it could have something to do with your circadian rhythm being a bit off - which will determine your sleep / waking pattern. Turning on the lights right away when you get up, and ensuring that you get at least 30 minutes of bright light (preferably sunlight) per day can help to reset it.

A friend of mine had this problem all through college. He had a music alarm clock turned all the way up so that it disturbed everyone else in the trailer park, and he still often didn't wake up. He CLAIMED that he had "trained himself" to only need 5 hours of sleep a night, but obviously he hadn't. He also had an enormously loud snore. He was later found to have a serious case of sleep apnea (breathing failure during sleep, interfering with the sleep cycle and producing fatigue).
The lesson for YOU is - get enough sleep so that you can wake up on time. Everybody needs different amounts. You may be one of the people who needs 9 or 10 hours a night. If you can't seem to get enough sleep even when giving yourself enough time, go to a doctor and get tested for sleep disturbances.

I agree with the other posters that putting the alarm clock so you have to get out of bed to turn it off. Turn on the light yes i know that hurts but do it. start moving scrub your teeth get a wake up in your mouth. turn on the radio or tv listen to the news or music as you are moving. Do not even sit on that bed move move move. Also if you are organized for the morning you wont dread getting out of bed as much maybe. Know what clothes you are going to wear, have the coffee ready to go in the pot. have something you like to eat and that will give you some energy. try getting up ten minutes earlier than you think that way you dont have to feel rushed you can sit for a second drink your coffee or eat breakfast and get your head together before you start your day. eight hours should be enough...good luck

Well. I have this alarm clock that doesn't shut up! I got it a target (for like 12 bucks). It is round and vibrates. It has sayings. It says something different every day and it is funny so it kinda gets you in a good mood right off the bat.
I also saw an alarm clock with wheels (sharper image?) that will sound right next to your bed and then will roll of your nightstand and roll and hide somewhere. That way you have to get up and turn it off.
Another thing you could do is force yourself to get out of bed and wash your face with cold water. that will wake you up.
i guess loud music might help.
it depends how old you are for the minimum hours thing.
hope i helped!

You should sleep about 7 to 8 hours a night. When you first wake up, you need to get up immediately. If you get out of bed and get your mind going then you will wake up faster. So when your alarm goes off, get up and start moving around. Just that alone, will help. Best of luck.

I had that problem and had 3 alarm clocks, well, 2 and my cellphone. i set them 5 minutes apart from the alarms so its like a snooze but you still got to get up and turn it off. by the time the third one comes into play, you should realize whats up and get up then. if that dont work....try 4. Also, the last alarmclock was a CD clock so i have one of my fav songs goin so i couldnt turn it off and that helped too.
