Ok:
You have to know what you're looking for, the comet season, and place and last but not least the type of Comet you want to see.
Sometimes, you may need a telescope to see them, some may be far away... common sense man

Comets are not rare but they are often too far from Earth for them to be noticeable unless you know where to look. Certainly binoculars or a telescope would help. But there are many visible per year and 2007 is no exception. Here are a couple of sites to help you locate some of them.

Comets are relatively small and not that bright (compared with say, a star). To be able to see one without a teloscope, it needs to be very close to the Earth. There just aren't many comets that are bright enough and close enough to the Earth to see with just your eyes. When Hale-Bopp moved close to the Earth a few years ago, you could see that.

My guess is light pollution, although comets are pretty rare. It's a sad fact that it blocks out nearly all of the night sky, and such a beautiful sight is stolen from our view. I would love to see it all in its glory someday =oD

Comets that can be seen with the naked eye are pretty rare. Comets that can be seen in daylight are extremely rare. If you live to see one count yourself lucky.

Comets are rare, it's meteors you can see, or is it asteroids? Any way a comet is a body orbiting the sun that briefly brushes the earth's atmosphere, metres are small lumps that enter the atmosphere and burn up making the shooting star.

I guess no one hired a sky-writer that day --- oh, you said 'comets'. I thought you said 'comments'. Never mind.

Hello.
Comets are usually pretty far away and they are usually
very small, therefore you cant really see them. Comets
dont have light like moon and sun and other stars, therefore
making even harder to see. However, you might see them
when they are very close to the earth atmosphere and they
are flamming because of the collisions.
