I am a front desk agent at a major resort in Las Vegas that is part of a larger chain of casino hotels here. All of our properties accept debit cards as long as they have the Visa/Mastercard logo on them. Only one time did I have a Visa debit that wouldn't approve, because it was trying to draw funds from a bank in Germany.
That being said, our computer system will go for the same approval amount as it would on a credit card. This includes the total cost of the stay and, for our property, $150/day in incidental/security deposit. It is our policy when we see a debit card to inform the guest that we will "hard charge" this amount to their debit card(checking account) and then, upon checkout, post a credit back to their card for any remaining deposit. We do this because it returns the "held" funds to the guest's checking account much faster. Each hotel has a different amount of deposit that they require up front. It would be good to call ahead to your hotel's front desk to clarify their policy on debit card acceptance as well as how much they want per day in deposit.
As for the Tropicana being a nice hotel, I have lived and worked here for 14 years and have never heard anything negative about the Tropicana. In a city where most of the hotels are fairly new, the Tropicana is considered fairly older. That's not to say that it's not "nice", just that it's been around a long time and may not have the most modern amenities.
Hope this helps!

In vegas, I'd have to say probably no debit. But I could be wrong. I stayed at the Tropicana a couple of years ago. It was very nice and a nice cheaper alternative to the MGM or the other expensive hotels. It is also right by all the big hotels and the "fun" stuff.

I hope you enjoy it when you go! Win some money too!

My experience in using debit cards for like a hotel deposit has been that the hotel puts a hold on the card and you can't access the money in your account. I suggest using a credit card for the hotel if at all possible or you could pay cash up front and ask for no room charges (no phone calls, etc.).

They most certainly do take debit cards. Why do you want to stay at Tropicana?

most hotels do accept debit if it has a visa/mastercard logo. you have to have enough $ in your account to pay for the entire amount.

i don't know about the tropicana though.

Debit cards have a daily spending limit on them! Contact your bank! Take out the cash and buy an american express prepaid card!!!!! Daily spending limits on debit cards keep thieves from spending an enormous amount of money on your card!!!

I would NOT suggest staying at the Tropicana. Its going to be torn down due to "unsafe" conditions. I believe it has something to do with mold.
