Can someone tell me how to back up files on a jump drive?

Question

Do I have to have the files open to back it up on the Jump drive? Or, do I just go into My Documents and everything in there will get backed up? I will print the answer with all the steps to get it right. This is totally new to me and I really need to do some serious back up.

To do it without opening the item, go to the file or document in "my documents" or whatever other folder it's in, right-click, click "send to..." and choose the drive that your jump is plugged into.
