You should have about 10 minutes of homework for each year you have been in school (first grade--10 minutes, second grade--20 minutes, etc.) This is a good goal. Students can't possibly get all the practice they need in class, so they need to continue later. I would start on spelling, run-on sentences, and capitalization rules.

The main purpose of homework is to keep you from forgetting what you learned at school. I wouldn't consider homework overtime. You want to be able to compete with others so it's best to practice and stay on top of the game.
